Now that we’re about halfway through 2018, we can take a look back at what’s been going on in the movie world so far. In the first six months of this year, there have already been a lot of history-making success stories.
Marvel has continued dominating at the box office, and we’ve also seen new installments in franchises like ‘Star Wars,’ adding to George Lucas net worth. Still, the top four most successful movies of the year might surprise you.
Let’s take a look at the movies with the highest domestic grosses. Here are the four top-grossing movies of 2018 so far.

4. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Yep — even though the ‘Jumanji’ remake was released in 2017, ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ is one of the highest grossing movies of 2018.
The film, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, along with appearances from stars like Nick Jonas, has had some pretty surprising staying power. It’s made more than $235 million in 2018 alone, without even counting the money earned from its opening numbers in 2017.
3. Deadpool 2
The sequel to the merc with a mouth’s original movie was only released in May, but its popularity has propelled it to the number three spot on the list. It helps that the first movie was so popular, and that superhero movies have been doing super well this year.
It’s made nearly $263 million since being released in theaters on May 18, which is doubly impressive considering its R rating. The first ‘Deadpool’ movie showed that audiences were ready to see the character brought to life in all of his foul glory and the excitement clearly hasn’t waned.
2. Avengers: Infinity War
The cinematic event of the decade surprisingly only comes in at number two on our list. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was the culmination of over a decade of filmmaking from Marvel Studios. Starting with ‘Iron Man’ in 2008, they slowly built a shared universe with characters from multiple movies.
‘Infinity War’ was the blockbuster finale event, and the fans’ excitement was obvious — the movie claims the highest opening weekend of all time!
The movie is way ahead of ‘Deadpool 2’ with a total of $647 million made in the U.S. alone. That puts it behind just one movie this year.
1. Black Panther
Even with the massive success of ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Black Panther’ still reigns supreme. With nearly a gross of nearly $700 million from solely U.S. ticket sales, ‘Black Panther’ is the third-highest grossing film of all time.
It’s not just notable for its high ticket sales. Part of what kept audiences coming to the theaters was the promise of seeing a black superhero in a big budget movie. The cast and crew of ‘Black Panther’ definitely delivered on everyone’s high expectations.
Wakanda Forever.
