Dear readers, may I have your attention, please!
I am very glad to announce another interesting offer found on Amazon – this time it is a Sylvester Stallone DVD collection.
I am pretty sure that even your grandmother knows that the so called ‘Italian Stallion’ is a living legend in the movie industry and a must-watch action actor with tens of films behind his back which predefined the action genre.
In the paragraphs below I am going to share my honest opinion about the DVD in question by providing a detailed description of it.
I am also going to discuss the pros and the cons of the box set as well as its technical specifications that you certainly should keep in mind.
By the end, you should have a clear idea why I feel enthusiastic about the whole thing.
Let’s begin!

What Does The Sylvester Stallone DVD Collection Contain
In brief, the box set contains four vintage Sylvester Stallone action films.
It is true that Sly rose to stardom thanks to the iconic roles of John Rambo and Rocky Balboa but what is also true is that he solidified his presence as a dominating action macho by participating in many other celebrated actioners.
Four of them are included in this DVD collection:
‘Demolition Man’ (1993) – the movie directed by Marco Brambilla is among the few sci-fi actioners in which Sly can be seen.
A total hit shortly after its release, ‘Demolition Man’ also stars Wesley Snipes and the Oscar nominated Sandra Bullock.
The story revolves around the cryogenically frozen crime lord Simon Phoenix played by Snipes who is revived in 2032 after 36 years for a parole hearing.
The police officer John Spartan (Stallone) who captured him is also frozen for a crime he was not culpable for.
After Phoenix escapes from prison and starts terrorizing the futuristic city of San Angeles, the law forces are left with no choice but to release Spartan who appears to be their only chance to capture the violent maniac.
‘Demolition Man’ is among the most celebrated old-school Stallone flicks.
It is an action-packed roller-coaster of a blockbuster that every fan would highly appreciate.
‘The Specialist’ (1994) – the flick starring Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone, and James Woods is another great example of a cheesy action movie coming from the 90’s.
Directed by Louis Llosa, the movie tells the story of the former CIA bomb expert Ray Quick who is now working as a freelancer.
Things get complicated for Ray when he is hired to kill a mafia kingpin from May Munro – a sexy widow whose family was murdered by the Miami underground years ago.
‘The Specialist’ is a very entertaining flick, full of shootings, fights, and explosions.
It is a spectacular and funny action movie that is renowned for the on-screen chemistry between Sly Stallone and the gorgeous Sharon Stone.
The villain is also brilliantly portrayed by the very popular by the time Eric Roberts.
It is truly an awesome entertainment from the engaging start to the explosive finish.
‘Tango and Cash’ (1989) – now, this is one of the most celebrated action movies from the late 80’s and the early 90’s.
The movie stars two of the most trending action stars by the time – Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russel.
It is a classic cop story that follows the exploits of the narcotics detectives Ray Tango and Gabriel Cash who can’t stand each other but are forced to work together as they are framed for a crime they didn’t commit.
The stunning Teri Hatcher also shines in the action-comedy directed by the legendary Russian filmmaker Andrey Konchalowskiy.
The flick strongly relies on the on-screen chemistry between Russel and Stallone and both actors did a great job in portraying rival police officers who must join forces in order to bring the bad guys down.
I am sure that you have at least heard of ‘Tango and Cash’ and its huge popularity.
The actioner is very amusing and intense at the same time and delivers top notch spectacle and memorable one-liners.
The whole experience is enforced by the cool soundtrack which includes Alice Cooper’s smashing hit ‘Poison’.
‘Over the Top’ (1987) – As you probably know, this one is not a typical action movie in which the hero chases the antagonist.
It is rather a story in which the main character has to overcome his personal issues and stay motivated in order to achieve a life-changing victory.
There are no shootings and no action scenes as we know them but the film keeps building the tension throughout and remains pretty entertaining.
It is an action sports drama in which Sly plays Lincoln Hawk – an ordinary trucker who competes in the World arm wrestling championship, determined to win the big award and earn back the love of his son.
The movie directed by Menahem Golan (‘The Delta Force’) presents the sensitive side of Sly and shows his acting skills in the background of an intense, yet touching sports-drama.
Make no mistake, in ‘Over the Top’ we still see Sly pumping his immense biceps and training like a beast including in his truck.
It is a well-played sports-drama with some awesome motivational lines and different, yet highly entertaining action.

What I Like About the DVD Collection
This box set is lovable for the following reasons:
- It contains four really remarkable action hits starring the legendary Sylvester Stallone
- The price is ridiculously low for a four movie DVD box set (under $10.) Usually, at that price, you can hardly find a single movie and here we have four at the price of one.
- The audio and video quality is more than good.
- A gift-wrap is available so it can be bought as a present for your loved ones.
- The ratio quality/price is exceptional.
- As of this writing, the average user customer reviews are strongly positive. The majority of the verified buyers gave it a 5-star rating (64{79d35de7db29101ba9e6698f70e90b6e3dcdf27517e01d2784b5cf4bdf9b4e0e}).

What I don’t like About the DVD Collection
There are some important things to mention here but overall it’s not a biggie:
- Just like the Arnold Schwarzenegger DVD box set, this one also doesn’t include special features like interviews, behind the scenes or commentaries.
- Some customers complain about the fact that ‘Demolition Man’ has an audio commentary track which cannot be disabled which is annoying. However, after I did my research, I found out that there is a fix for that – the audio commentary can be disabled from the ‘Special Features’ option. Under the Languages Menu option, you can turn off the audio commentary by selecting ‘English’ from the first column of options which turns on the subtitles. After that, all you need to do is go back to the same menu, Languages and move to the second column – subtitles and select off. Many users confirmed that this troubleshooting step works for them like a charm.
- The discs are two sided which means that you need to be extra-careful in order not to scratch any of the sides.
- A few people complain that for them ‘Tango and Cash’ is not in anamorphic widescreen but a de-zoomed 2.35:1 frame. I believe that this issue may come from the quality of the DVD player used and if this is the case for you, then your workaround would be to use the zoom on your TV.
- The DVD format is a region 1, meaning that it can be played on US and Canada DVD players only.
