The first figure action to ever be made was the original G.I. Joe, in 1964.
At the time, the term “figure action” was used because “doll” was associated with Barbie (and, consequently, girls) and the creators of the G.I. Joe toy wanted a name that they could target to boys.
However, since then, people from all genders and ages have grown an interest in action figures.
So much so, that some are willing to spend hundreds (or even thousands!) of dollars to get their hands on the rarest action figures.
And that’s exactly what we’ll be talking about in this article: the rarest, most expensive action figures there are!

5 of the Most Expensive Action Figures
For people who see action figures as nothing more than “old toys”, the prices we’ll mention probably seem ludicrous.
But for those of us who are passionate about action movies and the legacy that comes with this genre, it’s easy to understand why the prices get so high.
You’re not just paying for a toy, you’re paying for a piece of the history of action movies and characters.
The following are five of the most expensive figures you can find and we know you’d love to have them in your collection!
Dinosaucers
Price: Up to $750
Dinosaucers was an American/Canadian series from the 80s that have one season of 65 episodes.
In it, eight dinosaurs fight against the Tyrannos, an evil team of eight members.
When the Dinosaucers toys were first made, they didn’t do very well. For that reason, not a lot of them were produced. In fact, only 5 of the 8 Dinosaucers ended up in production.
For that reason, they’re extremely rare and pricey.
Optimus Prime
Price: $1,000 to $1,200
Who has never seen the Transformers?
Whether you watched Nelson Shin’s version in 1986 or Michael Bay’s version in the 2000s, we’re sure Optimus Prime was one of your favorite characters.
This Optimus Prime toy is from 1984 and, just like the character in the movie, it can go from truck to robot and back.
Batman Robot
Price: $5,000
The Batman Robot doesn’t exactly look like the Batman figures we’re all used to seeing.
However, there’s one simple thing that explains the price of $5,000. Batman Robot was produced in Japan, back in 1966, and it wasn’t available in America.
So anyone who was (and is) looking for the rarest batman toy would want to go for this one.
Original Luke Skywalker Action Figure
Price: $25,000
The Star Wars entire franchise is a gold mine.
The action figures are no exception. In fact, in 2015, a Star Wars collection was auctioned for half a million dollars.
The original Luke Skywalker figure, from 1978, stands out simply for the fact that there are only 20 of these in the entire world.
Prototype G.I. Joe
Price: $200,000
Obviously, the first action figure to ever be produced had to make the list.
The history it holds is enough to explain the amazing price it was sold for, back in 2003. And even more amazing: if the owner would want to sell it now, the price would most likely be even higher.
