Five of the top 10 grossing movies of the year are Disney productions or produced by a studio owned by Disney. It’s no surprise then that if you ask people what their favorite movies of the year are, there’s a good chance a Disney movie will be mentioned.
That doesn’t mean that there weren’t other fantastic films from other studios. 2018 brought some explosive action movies, brave independent stories, and raucous comedies.

If you’re a fan of action movies, this was the year for you. This may have been the biggest year for the Marvel cinematic universe. Black Panther not only shattered box office expectations, but it also made a social impact, showcasing people of color and allowing them to be heroes.
Marvel movies aren’t just the movies to watch in 2018 with all signs pointing to future years bringing just as much power.
Avengers: Infinity War was the beginning of the end for the current phase of the MCU, and the hype level was off the charts. Ant-Man and the Wasp brought some much-needed levity, but even it couldn’t ignore the dramatic change forthcoming.
Disney Keeps Swinging
Marvel isn’t the only weapon that Disney has aimed at the box office. Solo: A Star Wars Story didn’t meet most expectations, but it was a fantastic time that brought a respectable audience size.
Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet were animation powerhouses that blew people away with the art and storytelling.

Originality Alive and Well
People will talk as they have for the last few years about the lack of originality in the theaters. Yes, a lot of sequels and remakes are coming out and we have already covered some of them, but truly unique movies made a big impact this year and were some of the best films of 2018.
A Quiet Place was a treat for fans of suspense and horror. Red Sparrow and Annihilation brought exotic locations and food for thought.
Crazy Rich Asians and Blackkklansman were breakout hits, ushering in new talent that people are excited to see the future of. Foreign films, many of which you can catch up on at bolly4u, are also gathering more attention with features like Apostle and Sunset.
