The Terminator once said, “I’ll be back,” and the 1980’s have plenty to offer that could fit into today’s society.
The 1980’s had a huge impact on pop culture and had many trends that are no longer around. Let’s be honest, some of those trends we can say good riddance to, but others we all miss.
Here are 7 of the top 80’s trends we wish had stuck around for a little longer.

1. Fanny Packs
They are both stylish AND practical, so why did these things ever stop becoming popular? Perhaps because of the nerdy tourist stereotype. But fanny packs could instantly become popular again if someone in Hollywood started wearing them.
2. Wood Paneling on Car Exteriors
Everyone remembers the old station wagons and minivans with bright colors and wood trim on the exterior. These days, the most luxurious vehicles have wood panels on the inside of the car, so why would you not want it on the outside too? With the more aerodynamic designs of today’s cars, it could look great!
3. Nintendo Entertainment System
The NES was a huge upgrade from the Atari. It had way more games and had better graphics and controls.
It also introduced classics such as Mario and Zelda, which are still huge franchises to this day. Many NES games also led to the popularity of arcades, which also seem to be a thing of the past sadly. Luckily, there are some 1980’s style arcades still around you can learn more about if you’re interested.
4. Sony Walkman
Before smartphones, mp3 players, and even CD players there was the Sony Walkman. It was the coolest feeling ever being able to put on headphones, listen to your own tapes, and ignore the world.
5. Pop-Up Headlights
All the coolest cars had them! The Corvette and many popular vehicles had them, and even the Mazda Miata which is often synonymous with the 80’s had pop up headlights.
Let’s not forgot the car from Knight Rider. Safety regulations have made these headlights less common, but if someone brought back a safer version they would look awesome!
6. Bill Cosby Sweaters
One of the most recognizable features of Bill Cosby was his outrageous sweaters. With “ugly Christmas sweaters” being a huge phenomenon, it is a wonder why people don’t wear sweaters like this all year long!
7. Big Hair
If there is one thing people think of when it comes to the 1980’s, it is the big hair. One example is Kurt Russel in 80’s classic Big Trouble in Little China. Long, puffed up locks for both men and women were a staple and is a much-needed trend to counteract all the extremely short haircuts of today.
