1. Will Smith
While at a private driving range one day, a fan of Will Smith was getting a golf lesson. He glanced over his shoulder and there was Will Smith driving up in a golf cart. He was also there to get a lesson from another instructor. When Smith went to retrieve something from his golf cart, the fan couldn’t resist but to go an tap him on the shoulder.
To his surprise, Smith actually turned around, shook his hand, and started a conversation with him. The spoke for probably five minutes and Smith was courteous, kind, and generous in his listening and interaction.
2. Anne Hathaway
A young man was working backstage for a show when he had the opportunity to meet Anne Hathaway. As they were waiting for her cue to go on, they started talking. They joked around a bit and she admitted that she was a major klutz. He found that hard to believe, but when she was called on stage, she tripped going up the stairs and fell.
She turned around and looked at the young man and they both started laughing. He was amazed by how sweet and warm she was and was grateful to have met her.
3. Robin Williams
One woman recalls going to elementary school in NYC in the early 1990s and taking the bus home every day from school during the time The Fisher King was being filmed. The bus went by Hunter College High School – the location that doubled as a castle in the film.
One day, there was some significant traffic as a result of the filming and the bus was stopped front and center of the school about 10 feet away from the late Robin Williams. Everyone on the bus was gawking and hanging out the windows to catch a glance. Williams went into a full-on performance, cracking jokes and riffing – just making everybody smile. He was truly one of the nicest celebrities to meet.
4. Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa is known for his ability to pal around with his fans. He’s the consummate actor in that he loves his job and wants his fans to have as much fun as he’s having. Anyone who’s met Momoa claims that knows how to size up a fan and then accurately measure just how much he can tease and prod before crossing the line. Everyone says he’s a joy to be around.
5. Kelly Clarkson
It seems that Kelly Clarkson’s bubbly on-air persona is genuine.
One of her biggest fans camped out to nab a spot to meet the music star during the opening of a new Microsoft store in her neighborhood. When it came time for her to meet Clarkson, the fan handed her a fan letter which she happily received. She and Clarkson talked for a while, took a picture together, and hugged.
When it was time for the next fan to step up, the woman stopped halfway, turned around, and asked if she could have another hug. Clarkson smiled and said, “Of course, sweetie. I don’t mind at all,” and welcomed her with open arms.
6. Stan Lee
One man remembers being a hopeful 10-year-old comic book writer/artist when he met the late and legendary Stan Lee. He asked him to sign an old comic book, as well as a drawing he’d made of a character he created. Rather than just sign the drawing and hand it back to him before moving on to his next fan, he looked at it and said, “Wow. People might think I did this!” in the most genuine, genial, Stan Lee manner imaginable.
The young fan saw it as a passing of the torch moment that he never forgot.
7. Jason Segal
A Jason Segal fan lived in a town near Yosemite where celebrity sightings weren’t unusual. Even so, she’d never seen one.
Then one day around Halloween, she was working as a cashier at an event where there was a headless horseman prop people could stand behind. To her surprise, Jason Segal came through her line. She simply made small talk and didn’t let him know she knew him. When she made a joke, he laughed. She was moved by how kind and welcoming he was.
8. Dave Chappelle
One Dave Chappelle fan was part of a college group that brought in speakers and performers to speak on campus. They’d brought on Chappelle and after he performed and presumably left, the group went into his waiting room and started eating the leftover food.
Suddenly, Chappelle stuck his head in and jokingly accused them of hotboxing the room. He proceeded to sit with the group and right next to the fan. When he made mention to Chappelle that it was his friend’s birthday and that he was a big fan, Chappelle actually took his phone and called his friend to talk to him and with him a happy birthday.
9. Scarlett Johansson
When one woman had the opportunity to meet Scarlett Johansson very early in the morning at a Starbucks, she was certain Johansson would be snooty and standoffish. After all, it was very early in the morning. And Johansson was a big star. So she was surprised to find that Johannson was sweet and charming. She even laughed when the woman told her she was a huge fan of one of her earliest films – Home Alone 3.
10. Bill Murray
It seems like everyone knows who Bill Murray is. But not everybody has had the opportunity to play pool with him. One lucky fan had just such an opportunity. It was when he was in Germany staying at a resort.
He’d walked into the bar one night at 10:30 as Bill Murray was walking out. He reached his arm out and asked the fan what he was doing and if he was any good at pool. He said he was, and the next thing he knew, he was playing pool with Murray and drinking wine until 3:30 in the morning.
11. Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks is a nice guy? Of course, there’s no big surprise there.
The nice guy on screen carries right off-screen with him. One Hanks fan recalls working at Disneyland in the late 1990s and seeing him give a tour to a group of around 25 kids. It obviously wasn’t his job. The superstar just enjoyed leading the tour and allowing the actual tour guide to happily tag along.
It was clear he’d done this many times in the past.
12. Henry Winkler
One woman tells the tale of Henry Winkler and her mom.
It turns out that her mom first met Henry Winkler while they were stuck side by side in a traffic jam in Los Angeles. He signaled to this complete stranger to roll down her window and in his sweet and soft-spoken voice, asked her how she was doing. They proceeded to have a long conversation.
Then she ran into him again at a store where they both happened to be shopping. Not only did he recognize her right away, but he was actually pleased to see her as if they were old friends.
Of course, not all celebrities are fun to meet. Hollywood has its share of the rudest celebrities as well. We’ll just take a look a three of them:
1. Katherine Heigl
If you’re trying to curate the ultimate collection of film actresses autographs, you may want to skip out on Katherine Heigl. She’s not exactly a people person.
According to those with whom she works, she’s got plenty of talent, but too much attitude. She throws tantrums on the set and creates so much drama that many producers will opt out from working with her.
2. Shaun White
Rude and entitled are the two biggest words assigned to snowboarder Shaun White. He’s actually demanded that entire snowboarding parks close down so he can be the only boarder.
What’s worse though is he is known to have ditched a group of kids from the Make-A-Wish Foundation who’d been granted to chance to snowboard with him so that he could ride on the halfpipe alone. Harsh.
3. Chevy Chase
While Bill Murray makes the list for one of the nicest guys, fellow funnyman Chevy Chase makes the list for the rudest. In fact, Chase has managed to not only alienate Murray, but Will Ferrell and Robert Downey Jr. are also not fans. Why?
Maybe he believes he’s being funny, but he’s known for throwing out nasty insults to just about anyone. Even scarier, when his ex-wife filed for divorce, one of the reasons was threats of violence.
